Freelancers Union

Founded in 1995, Freelancers Union is a non-profit organization that provides independent workers with education, advocacy, and access to benefits. As the Creative Director on the copy side, I was the steward of their brand voice from 2003 until 2018, working directly with the Founder of Freelancers Union, Sara Horowitz. 

The most visible brand communications were the subway posters, but I also wrote a lot of digital campaigns and collateral. We also did some video work that grabbed a lot of attention, one of them landing in the New York Magazine "Taste Matrix" and another making it into the Pictoplasma animation festival in Berlin.

Our integrated campaign to repeal the Unincorporated Business Tax, saving freelancers in NYC an average of $3,000 per year.

A personal highlight for me–and one of the best client compliments I've ever received–was when Sara Horowitz told me that when she met with legislators in Albany, they would often reference lines I had written for the subway posters and that these were really helpful parts of their conversations.
